Free Entrance at Freedom Park on National Heritage Day 24 September 20170
In line with this year’s theme “The Year of OR Tambo, Celebrating our Liberation Heritage” entrance to Freedom Park will be free of charge on National Heritage Day.
Freedom Park, is a post–apartheid national and international iconic monument for humanity and freedom, a people’s shrine, a monument dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives for humanity and freedom. Its core objectives are aimed at contributing to nation building, reconciliation, social cohesion and unity. It is also tasked to establish mechanisms to promote, protect and preserve Indigenous Knowledge Systems.
In representing South Africa’s heritage, Freedom Park is inclusive of all South African people, placing the country’s history, unique culture, heritage and spirituality in context that is respected nationally and internationally. A unique monument which has inscribed names of heroes and heroines across eight conflicts that shaped South Africa.
The Gallery of Leaders, is an element within Freedom Park, in which iconic leaders who fought for liberation, freedom and humanity are celebrated, leaders like OR Tambo, a nation’s icon and hero of the liberation struggle who shaped the country’s vision, mission and value system. Also standing shoulder to shoulder with Oliver Tambo are Kwame Nkrumah, Samora Machel, Julius Nyerere, Helen Joseph and many more.
Come one come all. Happy National Heritage Day.
