A ceremony was held on Tuesday in Parliament to celebrate the Polish-African Day, which was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited to the African countries in Poland, representatives of the Polish government, MPs and senators as well as entrepreneurs.
During the ceremony for which the main aim is to promote Polish-African cooperation, the “Friend of Africa” statues were awarded in three categories: business/entrepreneur, NGO/community worker and personality. The following persons were appropriately awarded: Romuald Kinda, President of Navimmor International Ltd., Szymon Hołownia, founder of the Kasisi Foundation that supports children in Africa as well as Wojciech Jasiński, long-standing ambassador to the African countries, currently editor of the African of Institute Chronicle.
The evening was graced with a performance by the Ricky Lion Band, while the African countries prepared special dishes native to their countries for the participants of the event.
The African-Polish Day was organized by the Parliamentary team for Africa in collaboration with the African Institute. Over 500 people participated in the event led by Omena Mensah.
On the same day, the first Economic Forum devoted to economic cooperation between Poland and the African countries also took place in Parliament. Representatives of the diplomatic corps of African countries accredited in Poland and Entrepreneurs participated in the event organised by John Godson; Chairman of the Parliamentary Team for Africa in collaboration with the Regional Chamber for Commerce in Łodz.
