LTE Internet comes to Angola

It is entirely inappropriate that we do not associate Africa with Internet technologies, as evidenced by our previous articles – the market for Internet start-ups in Kenya and the ubiquity of such technologies in Rwanda are only the first of such examples. Examples that are becoming an inspiration for other African countries and which are likely (at current rates of development) to soon become a standard in Africa.

Towards the end December 2013 in Luanda, measuring tests were held for Internet transmission in LTE standard. Its specificity allows the expansion of mobile telephony – as it assumes a higher data rate, reducing the number of errors and delays as well as data transmission costs. As a result, we can obtain a better and more accessible service at a lower price. Soon Angolans may have such a possibility.
Ericsson in collaboration with Unitel, one of the leading providers of telecommunications services in Angola, has tested LTE in the capital, Luanda. The tests were successful – “We are on track to implement this technology on a permanent basis. Over the next few years we shall create the most modern cellular network in Angola, and perhaps the whole of Africa”, says the chairman Unitel, Amilcar Safeca. With such a change, Angola would gain an even broader and easier access to global Internet resources and thus a chance to strongly begin to co-create.
It seems that this beautiful vision may come true sooner than expected.
